    Slack Fan Belt

Took washer off to remove top pulley. All the shims were on the outside of the top pulley - there were none between the two pulleys. The rear pulley was in bits - very like the photo above of the one that went on the way to busfest.. So it looks as if the rear pulley needs replaced. How do...

    Slack Fan Belt

My nuts are tight. Would removing a shim make that much difference?? It was 1/2 inch deflection when I checked it the other day - now i can push the two sides of the belt in the middle so they just about make contact. Will try it tomorrow. From what you are saying, it does't look as if I...

    Slack Fan Belt

What's going on here? Checked the fan belt a couple of days ago - tension felt fine. Took the van out today for a 30 mile drive, dunked the dog in the sea, feed the kids ice-cream, etc - no problems with engine while out. Van back in the garage this evening. Checked the fan belt but it now...

    I don't understand leisure batteries.

yes - so i've got the fusebox identified. It is indeed right next to the original fusebox. Thanks for that. Next problem is not knowing which of the wires are the stereo in the original fusebox. Following them from the stereo doesn't help as I think they link in with the main wiring, so I...

    I don't understand leisure batteries.

Or indeed much else about the electrics of the van. So the leisure battery works independently of the van battery, as proven by the interior lights working with the van battery is off. But the leisure battery somehow links into the van electrics so it can charge when the van's engine is...

    Carrying bikes.

Went for the saris. I don;t need to worry about the 4th bike for 2 or 3 years and this is obviously cheaper than the tow bar option. Got it for £109 which seems ok. Thanks for all the help.

    Carrying bikes.

Photos of the saris one in action would be good. Whoever suggested I keep them inside the van has obviously never met Mrs Wilson - the van is full of her "camping gear" (hair straighteners, electric blankets, fish pedicure tank, etc) If we stick with the attaching the upper straps to the...

    Carrying bikes.

I currently have a fammia t2 bike rack. Does anybody know a rear-mounted bike carrier to carry more than two bikes, or is a tow-bar mounted rack the only option? And, no I'm not strapping them all to the roof bars before, anybody suggests it! Thanks.

    Advice please on exhaust/twin carbs

Currently have twin carb engine but standard exhaust. How much of a difference would an upgrade of the exhaust make (driving a family of four and bikes around)? And if I go ahead what's the best option? Will get some photos of the van up one day when I work out how to.

    Fuel filter problem?

Wilson starts fine, but when trying to accelerate engine gives up altogether. Checked fuel filter - fuel looks clear, but on shaking the filter, clear fuel turns into something like black coffee. Does this mean this is the problem - sediment blocking the filter?

    Warning lights

Having fiddled with it this morning, taken the battery in and out it appears to be ok. Battery was fully charged and seemed to be going up to about 14v when the engined speeded up which i think means its ok? Not sure if it was just a lose connection. Now when you switch the engine on the...

    Warning lights

Hey Thanks for the info, have to admit not really the most handy when it comes to stuff like this, looks like I'm going to have to learn! Is it ok to drive or am I likely to end up with a flat battery if I drive before sorting it? Cheers

    Warning lights

Hi New to the forum and sorry to have to start with what is probably a really daft question! We have recently bought a restored 1971 westy and have had a bit of a job getting him on the go! Fortunately he is now up and running ok ( I hope) and we are heading out in him tomorrow for our first...
