Currently have twin carb engine but standard exhaust. How much of a difference would an upgrade of the exhaust make (driving a family of four and bikes around)? And if I go ahead what's the best option?

Will get some photos of the van up one day when I work out how to.

On it's own, an upgrade to the standard exhaust won't make a great deal of difference. As a whole package, from induction through to exhaust, better breathing will make a big difference. That means more fuel and air in using bigger and twin carbs, along with match ported heads and better valve setup, i.e. different cam and bigger valves and higher ratio rockers, then a decent scavenging exhaust system.
Just bolting on a different exhaust and nothing else will just look and sound good! :D

an engine is a giant air pump the more you can stuff in and get out the better, but go to big on the exhaust and you'll loose back pressure and performance.

Very helpful- thanks.

Anybody else? All opinions gratefully received.

Not sure where you are based but Easy on here does a good exhaust custom matched to your engine. I'm very happy with mine... well worth a look.
