    Auto Linea crankcase problem

As they are sand cast, sometimes the mold shifts and the walls will be thicker in some areas and thinner in others. That's pretty much what you are experiencing. A way to look if yours is badly shifted is to look how round are the lifter bore bosses. If they are not round, you will know there...

    Virgin engine builder!

Vw tolerance was 5g max, they had a few different rod weights but always matched their sets within a max of 5g from each other. They had some paint marks to differentiate them, but by now the paint is gone. Do not assemble it this way as it will bring inbalance and make your engine not only...

    Dizzy ID

Hi Stu N.1 is for a 71-72 Non Usa Bus, manual trans. N.2 is the exact same as N.1 and they can replace each other. N.3 is for a 71 only and it's the version previous to Ns 1 and 2. They all have basically the same curve, for a 1600 Bus with manual transmission. For these to work properly...

    Working on your bus

I love working on my cars, but my work commitments are not allowing me to work on them with time and patience, and being a perfectionist that means i normally get upset because i either do not start any work or when i start i have to rush :? So for my Bus i decided to pay a good friend of mine...

    Flywheel

If it's an 8 dowel flywheel it will go only one way. If not, almost impossible to know now as VW used paint to mark the position in some engines but by now the paint disappeared long ago. Using a stock Gen VW flywheel with a stock crank you should not have balancing problems as the tolerance was...

    Rocker cover leakage

Check the side of your covers if they have a metal ear, sometimes the ear touches the head depending on what head you have and prevents the cover to seat properly leaving a small gap and therefore leaking oil. Abel

    Carb Help

I am a big fan of the ICT's, they make decent power, very reliable when using a good quality linkage such as CSP Bellcrank and are good on fuel. Also they don't get clogged near as much as Dellorto's and IDF's. I normally recommend them to people who wants to spend more time driving than fixing...

    DRLA 40 and fuel pump

What intake valve sizes you have? If stock 35.5mm, i would go for 28 or max 30 venturis. With the Dell's 32 it can be a bit difficult to tune and you will loose torque down low. The stock Gen VW pump is my favourite, i don't mind the hoses as some want a clean look and go electric. If you hook...

Oil coming up through dipstick at high revs

The hose I.D. can be 13mm but it can be seen that the nipple and the connector actually looks of a smaller diameter. Please correct me if i am wrong. The nipple of those aftermarket aluminium breather tubes do not have the adequate I.D. as they come from the suppliers. Abel

Oil coming up through dipstick at high revs

That's it, as long as you have at least around 10mm of I.D. on the breather at all parts of the hose, you will be fine👍 Abel

Oil coming up through dipstick at high revs

Just as i suspected. The I.D. of the nipple on the breather tube is too small, around 9mm which is even smaller than the early original breather pipe. Second and most important, the plastic fitting from the carb to the hose is the main problem as the I.D. of that is even smaller. To make it work...

Oil coming up through dipstick at high revs

You probably do not have enough crankcase ventilation from your breather. Could you show us a pic of your setup? Specially the connection from the breather to the carb. Abel

Compression Readings and Oil Pressure For New Engine

The higher pressure springs for the oil pistons will only increase pressure at high rpm's, it does nothing at idle or cure low oil pressure problems on worn out engines as many believe. 20 psi would be good if the engine was idling at the correct working temperature. At 60 deg the engine is not...
