Oil Cooler size and mounting for 1776

While I am waiting for my 1776 lump to be built I've been scratching my head looking at oil cooler set ups. I would love a fan assisted 72 row cooler but as I have belly pans fitted there is no obvious place to mount it. I will be running twin 34 ICTs and a dual quiet pack so nothing too...

    Problems with calipers

Man up and get the grinder out ! You will only have to remove a tiny bit of the casting to get it to clear the disc carrier. You could get your old calipers repaired but if there is any pitting to the pistons they will not be re-usable. On the subject of safety what make of axle stands are they...

    sliding door problem

Before you buy any rollers etc check out the condition of the bottom roller track, this is part of the inner sill. I found mine had become detached at one end due to rust which meant the door dropped as it got to the closing point !

    Just kampers late calliper conversion

I had to grind a bit off both calipers on mine ! I think it's just the luck of the draw on the caliper casting process, only took a few mm off - could be done with a file :D

    Accelerator cable flexi conduit?

I modified a beetle one to fit by cutting off the smaller end to shorten it, then used a larger diameter piece of fuel hose to make a sleeve to attach it to the gearbox end. Be careful to file the cut end smooth as it could catch on the inner cable. :D

    James Gandolfini

Just downloaded "Woke up this Morning " by Alabama Three so I can pretend I'm him driving down the freeway ( well the M11). There goes another Icon, and the scary thing is he wasn't much older than me or my bus !

    Click click but no start!

Sounds like you starter motor is worn out. Next time it doesnt turn over try putting the van in top gear and rocking it backwards and forwards, this should turn the motor enough to get it off any dead spot on the armature. My van did this for a while until the motor failed alltogether. Had my...

    Dash top removal.

There are about 6 nuts holding the padded top part of the dash down. You can see them by looking up under the dash or by removing the glove box liner and instument cluster, I think they are 10mm socket size from memory. I can't remember if you have to unbolt the grab handle over the glove box as...

    Wheel studs

Press is best but good luck getting hub nut off as they can be mega-tight, used a scaffold tube on 3/4 drive power bar to shift my offside one ! If you use the hammer technique it's a good idea to pull the new studs back through using a wheel nut and some washers, that way it comes through nice...

    '71 dash top

Front edge of the dash is secured by @ 6 nuts accessed from underneath, I found it easier to get to these with clocks, radio and glove box inner removed. Took my dash top to the local blasters and had it powder coated, means it wont scratch too easily now. Only trouble is it shows up the lower...
