I need to replace all 5 wheel studs on the n/s/r of my 72. Is this a difficult job for a lemon like myself with very limited mechanical skills, or should I get a mechanic in?

just removed the buggers from our beetle al be it 12mm but they are the same.

LOadsa penetrating oil and doudle nutted them well 90% of them if that dont work try a tickle of heat or get a few replacements and get a pipe wrench on them and theyll come out , if really tight try one way then the other when you get movement kepp winding back and forth with sum oil on the blighter and there you go.

oh yeah remember to keep the brake on too and in gear or the wheels going to spin.

jth

if no luck walk away and go to the pub and moan.

Thanks John. Sounds like a four pack of Adnams job.

If you hear any swearing coming from the A140 this weekend, you'll know what it is

Cheers

Matt

Press is best but good luck getting hub nut off as they can be mega-tight, used a scaffold tube on 3/4 drive power bar to shift my offside one ! If you use the hammer technique it's a good idea to pull the new studs back through using a wheel nut and some washers, that way it comes through nice and square. If you are fitting alloys make sure they sit flat against the rear brake drum, my BRM's fouled on the drum reataining bolts so run without them now.
