    1970 San Francisco westfalia resto

I sometimes have wild fantasies about driving down into Mexico (I live only 100 miles away from the border) and buying a 1600 with fuel injection, electronic ignition and, most importantly, hydraulic valves.

    Spring Valley Bus meets Corvair

I invested in an Aquarium Thermometer from AliExpress. The sensor is attached to a long wire. I shoved that wire down the fresh air vent on the dashboard. It will set you back about £1

    Tyre size and Handling

My bus also used to do the Watusi when driving down a road. Doesn’t do that anymore. It’s invariably more than just one problem. It’s a combination of problems: the steering box, tyres without reinforced sidewalls and especially the steering coupling disk. Start with steering coupling disc...

    Sticker is all I want.

Any time you need to know your valve clearance setting, just ask us. The answers might be different, but at least one of them will be correct.

Parts Wanted Wanted: OG VW rocker covers

Once upon a time, long long ago, I bought a brand new, Volkswagen de Mexico longblock. It was very shiny. (Announcer: “though it turned out to be complete junk”) The new valve covers leaked oil. They were warped. Various fancy-ass gaskets from the Volkswagen shop did not help either. I...

    Winnie - Our 1970 Bay

Thank you for using the correct pads. When VW bus owners use the ones meant to go on a Beetle, I judge them unfavorably.

    How does this fit?

The plastic strip was intended to solve a problem that, in my opinion, does not exist. It was supposed to keep sliding door grease away from your curtains. I opted not to re-install mine after restoration and my curtains are still entirely unsullied, unlike my mind.

Parts Wanted H4 headlights and brighter bulbs for rear lights 1971 DC?

The cheapest, easiest solution is to only drive during daylight hours. The second best solution is to change over to H4 halogen bulbs; they are cheap and durable. For the rear lights, start by cleaning all the connections. A spray can of contact cleaner and the eraser on a normal pencil...

The campground I was hoping for is closed because the road is still blocked by snow. Onward!

    Front windscreen replacement?

Heated windscreens keep your hands warm when you’re pushing the bus.

    Today’s California camping photo

Today’s photo was taken at a less-than-exciting County park near Carson City, Nevada. Turns out that buses lose some of their pep driving at over 7,000 feet.

    Today’s California camping photo

Alabama Hills, California Today was a bank holiday in the States, so I sauntered off to camp with the ‘71 and the spotted Dog. If this area looks kind of familiar, that’s because lotsa TV Westerns were filmed here. (If it does not, that’s because you’re under 50)
