    Winter work thread

Back around maybe 12/13 years ago Clive (RIP) @ The Old Dub Shop repaired the screen and the painter at the time did a fantastic job of blending it in, you really wouldn't know. I believe the painter was Yanick (spell?) who now runs a paint shop somewhere in Bristol.......

    Winter work thread

So rear CSP drums are being fitted next week along with shortened late bay half-shafts, weepy cylinder being replaced and perished rubber DS boots. I picked up some Boxster wheels cheap and whilst fitting one to see if I like the look I realised that the wheel caps wouldn't go on the fronts...

    Winter storage

I put mine in storage whilst I had an extension built a few years ago, it was stood on chippings in a huge marquee type structure with many other cars for around 2 months. everything that wasn't stainless in the engine bay rusted, I couldn't believe it!

Nice work, where is your leisure battery going? I remember @Bundy put his at the front for better weight distribution and I would love to change the position of mine too for the same reason

So you have two fuel pumps, how are they configurated? And those heads look great, the valves are huge :love:

    Tyres

Morning all. Who’s running 16” wheels and what tyres you got? Currently got Conti Vanco2 in 185/60/15 up front and 195/70/15 at the rears. Looking at the tyre converter 185/55/16 & 195/65/16 are a little bigger which will give me better cruising rpm but open to ideas? The Vanco2 tyres are 6ply...

    Empi 5 spoke

I like my wheels to have that tucked look but I don't want a narrowed beam personally so 'beetle' fitment wheels don't work for me with their poor offset of ET15 - 20. For that reason I have gone Porsche but even then you have to find the wheels that are ET40 - 53. All part of the fun in my view...

    Empi 5 spoke

What Nigel says above is correct, but with the Red9 system the beam is narrower than stock even when fitted with the wide5 adaptors. If you are running 5x112 then its narrower still. I've ran these wheels but cant find a picture, feel free to trawl through my gallery thread though

My 68 Westy - as time goes by .....

I went there for a drive out in the van back last year with the fam, although I liked the cobble street hill with the shops, and the real nice French restaurant at the top, the carpark I stopped in was like a rubbish dump and I was actually shocked when I returned and the bus was still there tbh...

    Alternator

Just go for the cheapest, no point having high output unless you have dozens of electrical/electronics in the van, they also wear belts quicker, trust me I know lol Worth ringing Bristol Auto Electrical to see what they say about re-winding yours, and Sparx whilst your at it

    Spring Valley Bus meets Corvair

Thanks for the heads up. Viton seals are a no-no for rotating parts apparently, in the corvair world anyway, really not sure why mine only last around 4-5yrs but I’m guessing they are Chinese origin. I can’t get them in the uk so rely on parts suppliers in the USA who will ship internationally...

    Spring Valley Bus meets Corvair

So It looks like the crank seal is leaking again on the Corvair motor, looking back I changed it in 2020, fairly easy job to replace but it is an engine out job, clutch and flywheel needs to be removed along with the alloy housing that holds the seal and the oil pan, so quite a few seals...

    Brakes!!!!!

Cant you just give everything a clean and a paint, change the discs and pads, I would have thought if the calliper was sticking it would be the flexi that's fault maybe? Depends on the state of everything once cleaned and inspected. '71 use the smaller callers I believe, maybe see if you can...

    Outside Gas shower.. ideas.

They work really well in hotter climes, my dad has one in his garden in Spain, you'd be surprised, nothing fancy needed just a black tube and the sun. The tube is pressurised with a pump just like the windscreen washers on your bus..... Plenty of youtube videos showing you how to make one out of...
