Well from what I'm reading the one year only brakes were from Aug 71 - Jul 72 !!! So to me I'd say thats a year :P But saying that i don't know why they are on a Nov 70 bus ????

Found it ! the wife knew where it was Chassis number 2312075448 Date of manufacture 3rd November 1970

Funny you should say that, its been said before. Its a Lhd on a V plate 1980 and was told it was a Dec 69, then working out the chassis number in a mag it said it was a 1970 ? I've got a vw letter somewhere from when i got her might have a look just now. Its got the 1 year brakes on the front...

I think this bloke is talking bull ! I don't think its a crossover year ! I'd say its a 70/71 early bay with small 5 disc brakes that has had a lot of work done ! late front panel late sliding door late rear arches

My bay is a 1970 and that got small 5 stud patten disc brakes and half moon vents !!!!!! :wink:

Looking for a 1600/1641 turn key engine for my bay. Don't want an oil leaking sat in my mates shed for 2 years tho.

You don't have to use commercial tyres on your van (185/80/14). You just need to make sure the load rating is ok. I think for a bay you need 88 rear and 84 front. If your van is standard height i don't think it would look right with a lower profile tyre like 185/65/14.

Are they 15" rims ? You might not get them on or off if they are ! Just drop one side and have a look. I know 65 profile are no problem at 1 spline

If i have to use the tyre weld thats because I've got a punture ! So it will need to be repaired asap. To get the wheel off just take the valve out !

Right I've sorted i think. i've dropped the rear by 2 splines and the front is on adjusters. Tyres on the rear are 185/70/14 but i have to fit these flat so they go under the arch ! Front are 185/65/14 these fit no problem also they will fit on the rear inflated too so I'll just keep a 185/65/14...

I've just lowered my bay, Adjusters on the front and turned 1 outer spline on the rear. I'm thinking of dropping the rear to 2 splines ! What size tyres would i need so the wheels fit ? they are standard 14" rims with van tyres at the mo. Also will i need to notch the spring plate with turning 2...
