It's not a '70, it's a '72 or a '73. The wheels are narrow 5.

has half moons, flat/smooth front arches and un-flared rear arches, therefore most likely a 71 (with a butchered front panel) :)

Might be a disc conversion ,my 70 has narrow 5... :?

late front without the bulge ,wiper stalk ,later rear arches, early rear valance/door....

I think it is a 70...

Loads of things look original ,it is rare.... :?

Bearing in mind we tend to talk in model year and not production year could well be built late 70'

Also just cos somethings original dont necessarily make it desireable ... that rust looks quite original

It might be a 71, half moon vents, flared rear arches and disc brakes, but some one has put a late front on it.
same year as mine, but I have an original front but discs and flared rear arches.

That is definitely a '71 model. small 5 brakes and half moon vents.

For the money (£200) I'd say that is definitely worth a punt. I wouldn't say no to it myself. New front panel and a few other bits and it would be ready for paint (Why oh why am I so optimistic)

*wonders whether to buy new wings, floors, heater channels and outriggers for Beetle, or whether to buy a third car*

i asked the bloke on ebay if it had any previous work done as it has a late front on it.. and he said

"its on a changeover year, hence why you've noticed this, also he said it had some work done on it before he had it, but he doesnt know what"

oh dear, someone needs to do some reasearch!

unless its an ultra rare "reverse crossover"

I think this bloke is talking bull ! I don't think its a crossover year ! I'd say its a 70/71 early bay with small 5 disc brakes that has had a lot of work done !
late front panel
late sliding door
late rear arches

everything says 71, including the 112X5 pattern and halfmoon vents small rears, its had a late panel put on as early ones are hard to find, and lik/ely the doors were replaced with brazilian ones due to the OGs rusting out

I've had a couple of replies from him and basically he doesnt know what hes got or whats been done to the bus in the past...

then if it stays as low as it is its still worth a punt....

Your van has either been converted to small 5 pattern, or is a '71 model ;)

'71 models were produced from August '70 onwards.
