My bug is currently running a 1600 tp motor. It was originally a 1300 but i put new mahle barrells and pistons on it and used 1600 heads. No cracks in them when engine was built.

Stock motor.
The engine is in my bug and can be seen/tested until Thursday 5th August, it then comes out. I drive this most days and it is a faultless runner. It doesn't smoke or use oil. There are no wet patches on the floor underneath where it parks. There is a very slight feelable end float when tested by hand. The engine does not knock or do any other nasties. It has excellent pulling power but is never thrashed.
