How do you tell the difference between a 1700cc 1800cc and 2000cc type 4 motor? I am thinking of buying a 72 bay and the owner says that the engine is a 2.0L , but the v5 says 1679cc

get the engine code off it and cross ref here
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/engine_letters.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi, The number starts with CU and on thesamba website it says, CU 1980-1983 2000cc - Vanagon style. So i guess the engines from an 80's volkswagen ??

a picture would be good, to fit a T25 engine in a T2 is a fair job, the tinware isn't the same, i suppose it could just have a CU block but seems unlikely.

A goiod exhaustive list of engine codes :

http://www.volksbolts.com/faq/eng-codes.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

CU is a 2.0l engine from a T25 Vanagaon.

Sounds like they have exchanged engines but not updated the V5...naughty.!!

Sounds like it had a1700 type 4 engine in that has been changed to a 2.0 type 4 engine, other than the engine number there's not much to see that's different

AN code
1800 93 66 1795
914 / 412LS
85 HP
F.I. or Twin Carb

hmmm interesting, got a picture

its on the data in the link about 12 down from the top

so looks to be either a porsche 914 engine or a 412ls
