So my MOT is due very soon and I was hoping this would be a quick fix. Can anyone offer any help?

Have read a couple of other threads on here that advise to check the springs and such. Whipped it off today and all spring MG's seem to be in order and in place, the mechanism seems to move ok, it just won't stick on?

Failing that does anyone have a spare for sale? Closer to Lincoln the better.

hard to explain but if you look in the mechanism there are little notches which make it lock in which wear away. I tried to repair mine by using a dremel and deepening the notch. I did one side perfectly but then I went to deep on the other and it would lock in so hard I couldn't release so I messed it up completely.

the repro ones are really expensive and apparently crap

I might have a spare I could send to you and you could return if you didn't need it. Have you got a PIC of yours as I think there were different types fitted?

Cheers

Chad, that is a very kind offer.

I can get a pic if needed but I don't have one at the minute. It's for a '68' and screws into the housing with two small screws if that help. Can always take it apart again and get another picture if needed.

I think that the differences are mainly down to the number of wires but I could be wrong.

I was under the impression that US buses had a different number of wires because of something to do with flashing the headlamps.

I'm sure that someone who knows what they're talking about in this area will be along soon.

I've got an 8 wire one I bought new a couple of years or so ago.

The bad news is that I'm pretty certain that it is a repro part.
