Hi all

Have decided to sell my bus as I'm not using her as I should.

It's going to a classic car auction at SWVA in Poole on October 28th at 11am
If anyone is interested.

It is a serious bus at a serious price hence I decided to go to auction.

Finally got time to draft a resumé on my Vehicle.

As Follows:

JANIS

1971 VW T2 Deluxe Campervan, imported from California January 2011

She was imported as a rolling shell. There was no engine, gearbox or seats.

This sat in the desert for approx 20 years. The shell was very rare as it was totally rust free, every panel is even now un welded.

We started on a full professional restoration Feb 11.

The mechanics, re wire and final build was all undertaken by Type 2 Detectives in Burwell Cambs.
The units TV holder and rock and roll bed was undertaken by SJH Joinery in Derby (luxury boat and camping interiors)
The trimming to seats door cards kick panels was undertaken by Edge Automotive Rugby.
The Prep and painting was undertaken by RAD (reflex auto design) in Daventry.

All companies were selected due to their award winning work.

Work Undertaken.

Stage 3 lowering including chassis notch at rear and narrowed front beam. Front is on air shocks with compressor. Ride can be lowered or raised whilst driving.

New 1641 Engine built by type 2, twin carbs, skimmed heads, chrome tin ware. Vintage speed stainless steel exhaust, stainless breather box and electronic ignition.

Fire boy fire suppression system linked to fuel solenoid in case of engine bay fire.

All fuel lines are 25 year Bio fuel and ethanol safe.

New gearbox, drive shafts rear shocks and Spring plates. Petrol tank removed acid dipped and powder coated.

New wiring loom with the addition of tachometer, oil pressure and temperature gauges.
Leisure battery with intelligent charger on 240v or 110v hook up cable for camping.

New brake servo, new steering box, new alloy Radar wheels and tyres including spare.

Front brake upgrade to disks all new, new drums and brake shoes on rear.

New uk headlights and indicators. Rear kept and reverse lights converted to indicators as US turn lamps not legal in UK.

New window rubbers all round including deluxe chrome trim. All door handles re chromed and all lock barrels renewed, but configured to take existing original keys.

New handmade white smooth headlining and tailor made carpets.

Passenger seat fitted with Captains chair bracket so it can turn 180 degrees to face sleeping area.

Propex gas night heating fitted along with computerised Battery monitor and alarm from a Boat. 240v 3KW inverter with 3 pin sockets.

All seats, bed, door cards, kick panels and even spare wheel cover all covered in Oyster Napa leather. Piped in exact yellow of paintwork.

Curtains are made from Shirt material imported from Honolulu. Sewn by Vw Camper curtains in Lincolnshire.

All units are solid oak and handcrafted.

Front seats are from a Porsche 924, Re bolstered and Covered in Oyster Napa leather.

Bentley check through all leather trimmed goods.

Bodywork:

Bare metal re spray, multi coats of high build primer and then multi coats of paint.

There were small dents in roof resembling hail stone impacts. these were all lead flow filled with lead as I did not want filler in body work.

The lower front chin was eventually changed as the dent was to deep for lead flowing.
This was removed only 6 inches up from bottom of front valance and lead flowed on join.

Paint work was then flattened and polished to give mirror finish.

Underside was all under sealed and cavities were given two doses of wax oyl injection.

Glass was replaced where sand from desert had made it obscure.

Rear tailgate has a safari window fitted which can be opened when camping.

She has a gas hob, 12v fridge and sink with electric pumped water. Waste and clean containers are below sink. A retro sound stereo was fitted to front with 4 speakers. All speakers hidden and none in doors or kick panels. She has under counter LED lighting and all spot lights are LED.

She has new painted bumpers as well, in fact every nut and bolt were renewed.

She has been in Volksworld magazine in which she was taken for a days photo shoot in Cambridge. She has won best in class at vw shows. We have only done circa 1k miles in her, stayed in her overnight once. She is kept in an air conditioned lock up all year round, never been out in the rain or used in winter time.

We have spent over 56 thousand pounds on her including storage. She has MOT till next June and road tax is free.

There is probably bits I've forgotten but we have a folder with every receipt in it, instruction manuals and even the birth certificate from the VW museum in Wolfburg.

She was registered in Los Angeles in July 1971.

We have over 400 pictures of the resto and all receipts scanned and on USB key.
