3mm ply

Is this ply the right colour ?
The headlining is very pale and is smooth, did you have to do anything to it before fitting?

I cut mine from the old boards as a template, I asked Lathams for the best quality. My J rails were off due to painting so I reattached those. I went for the bend the wrong way then push and pop method and it worked a treat.

Yes, that's a great guide. I only need one small piece next to the door as the rest of the headlining is fine. It seems the ply just needs a coat of clear varnish for the natural look

No worries Dave, you're welcome mate & thanks for sharing in the 1st place. i fitted mine a couple of weeks ago & found this a great help, even though i'd purchased a kit which came with the J Channels & pre cut Ply boards it didn't come with instructions on how to fit it, so this was a great source of info & thought it deserved to be shared to make others' lives easier.

splashed a few coats of clear varnish on it & i'm chuffed with the results.

You only have one exposed edge which I cut with a fine jigsaw blade and it looks spot on. I did 3 coats with sanding in between as I am a fussy sod, and 2 coats on the back for safe measure.

I also gave my ply 3 coats of varnish, with rubbing down in between coats. And I also gave the rear (surface facing the roof) 3 coats just to stop any moisture / damp getting into the wood.

Does anyone have any templates for this ? Dave says in his blog the roof panels taper in towards the front so its not as easy as it first seems i guess. I have been assembling all sorts of stuff on my westy refresh and will put it all here in due course and these are often "asked for"

Hi, the middle and rear sections of the ply are pretty much square (give or take a few mm).
The cab panel width is approx 1330mm at the centre brace by the sliding door, and approx 1206mm at the windscreen. The overall length, at the longest point (centre brace to windscreen) is approx 904mm. The only difficult part is cutting the ply to fit around the sunvisor brackets and around the rear view mirror, but you could make a cardboard template before cutting the ply.
