Having finally sorted out my indicators sorting all the wiring out and putting in correct fuses, the lever now only goes down/left.

Are early bay (70 year model) indicators self cancelling? If you try and push it up for right turn it physically won't go past the central point- am wondering of its to do with self cancelling mechanism, if indeed it has one...

Hiya Fred,

The 1970 turns signal switch is definitely self-canceling. Here's the inside of a 1970 switch............

The arrow indicates the turn signal pawls, one of which is pivoted outwards as the driver indicates a turn. It is then pushed back into the position (no active signal) you see by the action of a cam attached to the steering. I'm guessing that something (perhaps a broken spring?) is jamming the pawl for the right hand signal.

Thanks Mike, thats massively helpful - will have a go at it tomorrow.

Hiya Fred,

Glad that was of some help.

Do post up when you get the switch out, apart and repaired, I'm interested to know just what the problem actually was.

mine became very stiff ( started to move whole switch round steering colume) gave it a dose of 3 in 1 oil, has not been a problem since.

Yep, same with mine today - a drop of oil and its now lovely and smooth. Thanks to you both.
