While van is away in paint I'm trying to get a load of jobs done.

One of those is fitting front parking lights.

Can a parking light bulb holder be fitted in to the current sealed beam lights? Can I wire in some small led lights mounted under the front bumper?

What has everyone else done to get round this issue?

Is there a legal requirement for parking lights or is this the same as side lights that are originally in the indicators on us buses ?

If the later I replaced the sealed beamed headlights with new units that could then incorporate a side light.

I didn't do anything with indicators just leaving them a dual filament although the Amber bulbs proved a challenge to get as I wanted to run clear lenses.

Some years ago a friend fitted side lights to sealed beams by scraping through a small section of the silvering on the rear and mounting small bulbs but frankly, for the price of some replacement lights, its not worth the effort.

Modern halogen bulbs are far more efficient than old sealed beam units plus the old US units will not be dipping to the left anyway.

I agree with Trikky, in that it's better to have replacement halogen headlights rather than the sealed beam ones.
If the sealed beam units are US spec they'll be pointing the wrong way on dipped any way. (MOT failure)

You have to have white side or parking lights at the front you can't use the amber indicator lenses as they were fitted in USA as side lights with the dual filament bulbs as Bobster mentions. (An exception to white is if the side light is within a headlamp with a yellow lens).

From a practical point of view I would have thought front side lights are essential as you wouldn't always want the head lights on at all times at night for example parking on a road that is unlit.
