I would like some help here guys, I'm trying to install TPH adjustable spring-plates, but I have a few questions as they just do not seem to be installing correctly :|

For reference, here is the Torsion-bar waiting for the new spring-plate to be installed:

First of all, is this the correct way around for the spring-plate to be installed? It would make sense to me if the adjustment bolt was on the outside and not restricted behind the hub.

However, if it does go on that way, it presents another issue, the splines seem like they will not be fully engaged as they were on the old spring-plates due to the thickness of the new plates and the adjustment mechanism (I haven't hammered it on yet, but just to give you an idea, I think it will get around half-way on and stop once it has butted-up to the axle housing).

This shows the extra thickness:

Another issue is the bushes. I bought these from C+C and they seem too 'big'. I know I've painted the recess where the bush should sit, but when you have the bush over the spring-plate end, it seems like there is no way that will fit into the hole, even if it is just 1mm smaller due to paint.

So, is there supposed to be an 'inner bush' and 'outer', with the 'inner' being a smaller diameter?

Any help guys?

I had the exact same problem with mine on my crossover
The splines are electro plated which made the broche too tight so I had a different set sent out which did go on but are damn tight and took a good few waves to get them seated correctly they do the job but now they are squeeking like made so need to get the caps off and stick some copper grease on and hopefully cure it
Give Alex a call he will give you more advice

Cheers

Mark

Thanks Mark.

I just Emailed Alex at TPH for some help.

So, to confirm if you don't mind, are they the correct way around?

Where did you buy your bushes from and are they a good fit IN the axle recess?

I would be careful with the copper grease buddy, I do not think it reacts that well with rubber and I also read in the Bentley manual that the bushes are not supposed to turn in their seated positions as it causes wear. You could try some 'red rubber' grease?

Hi yeah the bushes were from heratige I think I put them in with talcompowder and were a snug fit.It looks like they are the right way round mate but they are really tight to get on
Thanks for the red rubber grease tip where can I get it from as the squeeking is driving me up the wall

No problem. I got some from eBay:

Does anyone else have any ideas to help or they have encountered the same issue?

No reply from TPH

I have just raised my bus back up by two splines and had the same problem but with stock spring plates. On mine I had to go around the other side and knock the torsion bar back in as it had pushed out when I was banging the side i was working on. the torsion bars meet in the middle and need to be even.

Hi mate. This was ages ago I know. I am having a problem where the spring plate will only go half on, but it's not the bushes it's the splines being too tight as fat as I can determine. How did you get on in the end? I didn't find a result in your threads so thought I'd ask.

No problem bud.

Yes, they went on in the end, it took loads of 'RED rubber grease' (special grease for rubber that does not harm it) and a set of longer bolts and large washers to push the spring-plate cover against the spring-plate to push the bush in.
