Does this air filter look like trouble??

I have been spending some time on my engine the last couple of nights, just going over everything to make sure it is set correct but don't really like the look of this chappy. Would it be best to get a standard air box set up or should it all run ok with it? Not looking for any performance just a reliable engine.

That's miles better than a pancake filter :msn4:
For a stock engine, an oil-bath filter is ideal, though.

That exactly, same principle but with an outer sheath. Probably to stop the usual oil mist being blown around the engine bay when using the non-sheathed type. This one would just drip out of the sheath instead.

Like people have said, fit an original air filter(look or eBay etc for a used one) or as a temporary measure drill a hole in the top of that cone filter and fit a 1/2" barb, run a hose from where that silly silver thing is mounted to back to the filter.

Alternative to that is buy a pancake filter which already has the breather port. But the original oil bath filter would aid clod starts, clod running and winter driving.
