are these legal on uk bays, spoke to a guy at a show who told me his van passed the mot with them on,but the tester told him if he had a rear end shunt he might have trouble claiming insurance, anyone know how the law stands on this :?: :?: :? :?

illegal after 1963. ive been thru MOTs before with them but not meant to

im more worried about the numpty behind me not seeing them flashing, mind you all my cars run red rear lenses!

I hate all red rear lights, rewiring my bus to euro spec was one of the first things I did.

Mine had them when i bought it, but i have just replaced them.

I found that the cars behind were 2 cm's from my bumper when i was making a turn due to the fact that they could not see a red flashing light only an amber one

The situation is made worse if you are braking and indicating at the same time

They do look cool but i would be gutted if someone piled into the back of my bus

Mine are all red lenses, but I've had indicators fitted in place of the reversing lights

don't mind Kim lounging on the R&R

Illegal on two counts on a bay. First the colour, second is the shared filament between the brake and indicator. If its US spec then Id wire falshers into the reversing lights for safety .... something I must get around to at some point .....

All red rear lights are legal up to Sept 65 , I had them on my old Split and didnt have any problems . I wouldnt use them on anything after this date because I know how insurance companies wriggle when you try to make a claim .

It's best to run UK spec as it's much safer.

I welded up the reverse lights as they look like an after though. You can trim the red/amber lenses so you can use the original SWF nice chrome rings.

Mines just gone through its mot with all reds and my mot,er said if its pre 73 and it was built like it it is ok mines a 1970 westy from the states so its ok as for not being seen with the twats on the road i dont think it would mater it you had 30 foot tall indicators people just dont look or are two preoccupied with there phone.

As far as I'm concered all reds look great on an import however,

When I bought my bus the previous owner had already changed them over for 'safety' reasons. I was adament that I would be changing them back but since having my baby daughter I have gone all safety consious and recon that all red's do cause a bit of confusion to 'other' road users. I even remember being followed home once in my splitty by a car so they could tell me that my brake lights were flashing when I indicated and that there must be a 'short' in the system!!!

Anyway,

Considering that your average car and lorry driver drive like twats over here on crowded roads.....all reds look cool but at what price???

keep the red spec lenses and just use green bulbs for the indicators.

Result = orange flasing indicator 8)

Simple.............I think.

I might sell my US spec rear lights & lenses. I am using the SWF rims though.

Dunno what they are worth. I was going to keep all of the original stuff, but think I will let it all go.
