hello peps,

i have a 69 micro bus, with a standard 1600 single port engine. the altenator has given up. Are they 50 amp ? if so does this mean a later 70 amp altenator would damage my electrics ?

i ask because i thought mine was 50 amp the shorter altenator, but its has the longer one fitted ? if so i have a spare. Also would like the thank volkswagen for making them so easy to get to :?

do people buy new ones or have then re-bushed ? where best places ?

many thanks for looking at my anoying questions

i thought a 69 would have a dynamo from factory.

if it is being moved from a dynamo to a alternator then you need to change the stand and the fuel pump.

a 55 and 70 amp alternator should be interrchangable as long as they are both made for the upright engines.

If it is indeed a generator you have then just replace the bushes for a cheap fix & voltage reg.

hi, why do you need to cange the fuel pump?

what happens if this is not done

thanks

The pump is smaller and the inlet / outlet pipes are set different to compensate for the bulbous end of the alternator. When you get a new pump make sure you get the right size pushrod for it too.
