Right,

Here's a pic of the g/f's bus as it currently stands;

I originally planned to do this for VW Expo this weekend, but various factors have got in the way, and to be honest I've not touched it. As such the deadline has now been moved back to Peppercorn, on the 20th July, just under a month away. Now I work full time 'up in the city', so I practically get no spare time to work on it during the week, so it's weekends only that I get to do anything. I've also got a couple of days off coming up soon, which means in total I've got 8 days to sort it.

In that 8 days I've got to do the following;
  • Replace 3 jacking points and outriggers
Replace both inner and outer sills
    Replace front cross member
    Replace front beam
    Overhaul the brakes
    Replace both lower rear corners
Replace N/S upper rear corner section
    Replace battery tray
    Replace tailgate
    Replace engine lid
    Replace cab floor
    Prep the body
    Paint it
    Fit new dash
Fit the interior panels and seats
    Make a suitable laminate floor
    Wire in new front seats
    Rewire all the electrics
And numerous other little jobs I've forgotten

Now I've had a sporting wager with a friend who reckons I've got no chance. So what's the general concensus? There's going to be me and a mate working on it full pelt.

I'm all for positive thinking... but you may be being a little optimistic!
You don't mention your skill levels (welding standard etc) so I have a suggestion for you:

Take non-essentials off your list and concentrate on MOT/safety items, body repairs (unless dangerous) can wait til later, if necessary get the magic gaffer tape out to cover any sharp bits, interior can wait etc - otherwise I'm with your mate on this one!

I'll keep my fingers crossed and wish you luck - hope it goes OK!

;)

Pity there'll not be much time for a little photojournalism, then. I can see it now:

"Miracle Gent's Bulli in Kent" or some such.

Popping some corn.....pulling up a chair......expectantly staring at this thread......

....and waiting!

Captain!! :D

i think...erm, er....what a nice bus i have

i feel bad your trying to finish him so quick but you will make these bets with your mates! i know how head strong and determined you are so i think he can get to MOT standard at least by peppercorn. surely getting him on the road will shut A up. if he see's him in the dark we can pretend hes been sprayed

Hmm,i've booked the week before Peppercorn off work, i wonder what i'll be doing? Any ideas Scot :!:

sunbathing in a baywatch bikini?

Maybe a tad optimistic there fella. You will defo get loads of it done, but you will need some serious help from mates. Remember every other body that helps for this time is an extra 8 days work, so call them mates and you never know :D

I would give you a hand dude, cos i love a challenge like this, but distance sucks! 8)

Good luck dude and just say to your mates it will be done for Vanfest 8)

Don't try and disguise your identity by using Nics computer Scot,if you wanna see me in a kini just ask

Seems the majority are against me, that makes me even more determined. I'm lucky in the sense I've got a couple of very good mates who know what they're doing, and will work for cakes.

Ade, I'd love to see you in a bikini, just not when you're welding, that'd be dangerous!

Expect loads of pictures people (not of Ade in a bikini though!).

Good for you - I admire a man that can face an unsurmountable challenge and still have the self-belief to say 'screw you' to his doubters!!!

Good luck with it dude!

;)
