If so, I was wondering what the going rate is, or a rough price to put in an over the bath electric shower. Nothing fancy, just plumb/chase in cold supply & wire up.
Cheers, Shaun :)

Depends what the condition of your existing electrical installation is like Shaun. If the earthing requires upgrading and a new RCD consumer unit needs fitting then the cost will increase accordingly.

It's a new unit sparky, only a couple of years old and there is a live feed already in there connected to a heater. Not sure if i'm allowed to use the live from the heater though.

You would not be able to use the heater supply unless you want to try and burn your house down a heater will normally draw about a 13amps and a electric shower will be about 45 amps so you need to up grade the wiring ,Are you in a postion where your could install a pump if using a tank for your hot water and buy a therm mixer for the taps or you could use the above taps with a combi boiler.

I just wanted a rough ball park figure to fit an electric shower

Ring a local electrician and get them to come round and give you a quote then. :)

I would if I thought I wasn't going to get ripped off. Or is that what happens? Guy comes round and makes it up what he thinks you will pay?

i would say its a sparky that you want, not a plumber. or both as an electric shower is the most dangerous thing in a house in terms of potential shock posibilities. most sparks would fit it in a day (£150-£200) plus parts. 10mm twin and earth cable doesnt come cheap which is what you will want to fit if you want a decent shower (10kw+)

Thank you. A sensible answer at last. I'll tell the guy that wants £1000.00+ to go bury his head then. :)

No, guy comes round and gives a costing of how much (in his opinion) it will cost to do the job you want. If you think it's too expensive then you don't get him to do the work. Quite straightforward really.
