Finally got the engine rebuilt and fitted but now have another problem, when i tried to start thr engne the battery was flat, didn't think nothing of it just connected the newly acquired boost pack and 5 mins later the engine started. Sounds better than before so at least the rebuild went well :D , anyway disconnected the boost pack to let the dynamo take over and charge the battery BUT i'm getting no output from the dynamo! :?
Connected my multi meter across the battery and only got 10.5V, connected across the D+ on the dynamo and earth and getting 0, nothing, diddly squat :x
Is there another way to check the dynamo output or is the dynamo cream crackered?
Could it be the regulator (i would of thought that if it was the reg then i would still get an output out of the dynamo?)
Any ideas?

Battery is less than a year old.

The Thick Red should be on D+ and the Blue should be on Df and the Brown should be screwed to the back onto the genny case. these then go to the same marked terminals on the regulator.

outputs from the genny should be..

at 2500 rpm 2-3 volts

if reading is out then check brushes..

then slowly raise revs and you should see volts going upto 12 and you would really need a amp meter to show a charge of 2 amps if much more or less then genny at fault. if results are as above fault lies with regulator or wiring.

Cheers Clarkson46,

Tried all the info an that site and...............it looks like the dynamo is going to the grave.
Disconnected the wires and tried to re-polarize the dynamo but it wouldn't even turn  , had a play with the carbon brushed, plenty of life left in them and good spring pressure so it looks like i need another dynamo
Although

Who does the best alternator conversion or is there a cheaper way of converting to an alternator?
