Hi,

Thinking ahead to our next bus... In terms of reliability, performance & economy which aircooled engine is best for an early bay?

A pancake 2.0L from a late bay, or an upright (Type 1) 1914cc or 2007cc with a mild twin-carb setup?

If we opted for a pancake 2.0L what mods are required in order to fit it into an EB?

Also, what are the differences between a Type 1 (Beetle) 1600 twinport and an EB 1600 twinport?

i.e. Would you use an EB case to build up a new engine, or a Beetle case?

Thank you,

Mike

Just bare in mind it can be expensive and difficult getting parts for the pancake....must admit my old 2.0ltr was a nice engine though stock and grimey was a bit of an ugly brute.....re the case either beetle/bus or universal the bug will require the adaptor plate due to a lack of cast fixings for the support bar. Modern cases come in all shapes sizes and prices, from standard to fully clearanced, depends on the budget and what you want..... have a look at CIP1 how many cases they stock....

ive had a 1914 built with twin 40s fro my keeper
