Had a tune up today, bus runs a lot better than before, I had 2 air leaks which I would never have found, timing was slightly out, plug lead for no 3 was playing up, replaced the cap and all seems fine. Well worth getting it checked out, and I gained a massive 0.6 bhp!!

Twin port standard 1600, not been rebuilt , recently had a good service, fuel lines filters etc replaced, just bog standard maintenance really.

I had an air leak on the n/s inlet manifold to head as it wasn't tight, and another leak on the vacuum blank off.

Had the dwell angle reset, timing reset, plugs regapped, carb reset. Runs like a completely different bus now, pulls really well all through the gears, it was bogging down a little bit at low revs before the tune up, and guzzling fuel!!

Compression results were 150,150,140,150.

Happy bunny now!! :D :D

That's a sweet result. I'm planning on visiting BD once I've run my new lump in (about 450 miles to do), what did you pay for the rolling road session and all the adjustments?

The final bill was £123 including vat, maybe a little steep but considering how well she drives now I would pay the same again!! :D

I don't think that is at all expensive considering it included a rolling road test too.. money well spent!

You gotta be pleased with that... mines a new 1641 from RemTec with twin carbs, I'd be surprised if it was that good!

£123 - that's not too bad at all 8) - I used to use these guys 20 years ago when I lived in Rainham and had my first Beetle - a session cost about £100 back then :)

You've done well there matey, that's a small price to pay for what's undoubtedly a big difference when driving. I'll book in there as soon as I've run mine in.

Perhaps it wasn't as expensive as I thought then, can't recommend them enough though, anyone struggling to get the bus set up right should definately give them a go. :D
