Surely your driving a bloody import?????

Cant remember where that ilusive british van production line was..... :?

really cant see where your going with this one and what your gripe is with lhd vans....there all works of art and the lhd is as designed by vw and Pon in the first place...

I have both lhd and rhd campers and lhd and rhd cars ,only problem I have is remembring which vehicle I am in....

Many times I have driven on the wrong side of the road....Lots of times I have tried grabbing the gearstick with the wrong arm...

been over here j`prefer lhd.... 8)

I've gone from a righty to a lefty and now I have a righty again.

I've no problems with leftys, it's just that my righty was the conversion I wanted, and in the condition I wanted too!

I took to my lefty surprisingly easily. My first drive in it was in central London... in rush hour traffic. Apart from also trying to grab the petrol stirrer with the wrong arm, and jumping in on the 'wrong' side, I really enjoyed driving it.... even though she was a late bay. :D

RHD all the way for me, all my dubs are and have been RHD. Left hookers dont bother me, i just prefer RHD 8)

Either or for me..i drive a RHD daily....and a LHD bus....i personally dont see what the hang up is to be honest..ive punched the door a few times, ive got into the wrong side a few time and paying for fuel in asda is a stretch......

Personal the condition of the bus is of up most to me hense importing a 'bl**dy' import 8)

US LHD for me and is what makes it fun!

I like it because it's different, just like the bus in general really but what swayed it was the condition, they are in much better nick than all the UK ones I looked at plus the price was better...

no brainer really?

Plus i really like it when i pull alongside others as they are mainly RHD and I can have a chin wag out me window 8)

Although i still find it embarrassing when i walk back to the bus after filling up with petrol and jump in the wrong side as people are generally looking!

...well yes and if the rumours are true....being a '72 it isn't from Germany either......god bless cheap Eastern European Steel from the 70's never did Fiat any harm

I was adopting a phenomenological approach to gaining knowledge of the community...I started with no point but have since devised a hypothesis

I never mentioned LHD :? , that is a construct based on lived experiences. As a pan-global community a LHD may well be the correct side

I do it all the time, the other day i did it with the mrs in the van too, she just stared at me through the glass as if to say "you dip-**** other side" I didn't even break step just a quick pivot on one foot and casually walked around

......maybe if this is a common LHD problem we could have some "..otherside..." stickers made up

im on the right, and i like it on the right,my van is solid but not untouched, id swop it for a lefty untouched van all day long

I now sit on the left side, driving and smiling When I sat on the right side I also spent time lay on my back welding!

I'd rather be on the left smiling than lay on the floor with a grinder in hand.
However if a do lie on the floor now I can count the orginal spot welds along the edge of the sill :D

God bless california for great weather

Title of the thread ' bl**dly imports' werent all the T2's imported one way or another
Always wondered about that, did they have a special production line in Germany just for right hand drive busses? I know SA imports are usually supplied in kit form and assembled over there. did we have a similar plant somewhere?
Come on Araon you must know this one

......the LHD/RHD thing is something that I have found a little strange.

The dash is symetrical so easily switched.........

.......but I would have thought (other cars did) they would have had a symetrical floor and just blanked the unused holes......

....would a rack and pinion steering set up is more easily swapped than the steering box set up?

its an easy job to do....to make left into right and if you want symetrical floors then buy a RHD floor pan half and weld it in. all in all its about a weekends work if you have the skills.

BUT...most people just except it for what it is and keep it the way they bought it.

question to you kind sir if I may?

Have you got a hang ups with driving an LHD?..I did at first but give it a week and you'll wonder what all the fuss is about...closer to the kerb...no more of them 'blind' corners etc etc...the real 'DyeHards' dont want Converted vans so it wont add anything to the value of the bus.

As for the Rack option 90% of the people ive spoke to said the steering actually felt heavier after installing a rack set up. 8)
