I spent some of the weekend fitting new inner and outer scarpers to my nearside door.

It was fiddly but straight forward.

It looked quite good when finished too.

I sourced these scrapers from VW Heritage.

I was pretty miffed today to discover they have let in water which is laying in the bottom of the door.

Some of the rain water has bounced off the inner plastic door vent on the way down and filled the well under the seat.

On close examination there is water between the outer rubber seal and the glass and I think this is where it has been getting in.

Frankly, I am not pleased. :x

Has this happened to anyone else ?.

Have I missed something when fitting them ?. Have I done something wrong ?.

Should I have got the scrapers from from Status ?

All suggestions welcome

I'm surprised you say that as my drivers door leaks not a drop.

I was hoping to achieve the same with the passenger door.

Unfortunately the van has to live outside so keeping the elements out is very important to me.

Hi do you doors still have the plastic vapor barrier which sits under the door trim. All cars let some water into the door from the outside, it should drain out through the hole in the bottom. If you don,t have the vapor barrier in place you could make one just get some polly sheet from a builders merchant, and some industrial strength double sided tape, just follow the recess the door card fits into when cutting the plastic sheet(make a bit smaller thn door card), and you should have weather tight doors, and less drafts.

I've just refited my bus with al new scrapers etc and instaled the plastic vapour barrier as the bus would have had from new!
Every car i've had without this barrier has leaked, golfs, Polo's,Beetles all ended up with a wet floor!More annoyingly, lots of condensation!
Once fited the doors wll be watertight and my van has remained bone dry in the footwells through the latest spell of bad weather!
Maybe the old seals were tighter due to accumilation of dirt, moss etc making a seal against the window.
I got my my plastic membrane from b and Qin the laminate floring section.
If you can't get any i'l send you the correct amount for the postage cost as i have lots left over!

Thanks guys..I will give the membrane thing a go.

Did you cut round the lower door vent area or just cover the whole door ?.

Thanks

PS..My karma is now restored and an old towel is currently preventing water ingress.

Hi

Do you mean:

A: square section tube which ducts air back from the dash to the bulk head behind the front seat, that lays on the surface of the door card, (Deluxe style).

B: the louvered window type which ducts air behind the front seat out of the door card?

You should try to keep the membrane intact i.e. no holes, the only hole I would put in is for the window winder.

Duct A: If taking the air duct off the door means you can put a constant membrane behind it go this route.

Duct B, membrane over top and cut hole around and of duct and stick down (I assume there is a duct on this type).

Please post a pic of duct type.

I dont have square section duct which goes horizontally along the door.

I do have the small sliding louvre window in the bottom rear of the door.

This is where the water enters the van. It seems to come through the bluey slider window and lay under the seat.

I will try the membrane thing but I'm not sure how this will solve the problem if it doesnt reach or cover the vent.

I've checked the bottom of both my doors and couldn't see any drain holes for the water to escape.

I think thats why they are filling with water.

I think i may have more than one problem here.
