Just replaced the brass gearbox bush, easy enough as the engine and box are out but what is this brass piece for? Where does it go?

Also, when removed the cv joints one was full of grease whereas the other pissed out a load of oil, is that normal?

It look like the bush that sits in the bell housing that the spindle from the starter goes into????

Strange, why would that come with a nose cone bush replacement kit?

Should have taken a better picture but it has a cut / split running down the length of it?

The extra brass piece seemed to fit over the shaft, does that seem right? Also should the linkage sit at a slight angle?

If the coupler is located properly and the grub screw lines up with the depression in the selector shaft, then yes.

Ok that's good then, should the brass piece visible in the second picture be fitted or not?

Yes if you remove the nose cone and then look at the back of it where the hockey stick comes through I think that's where it goes.

Might be an idea to wait for a pro to confirm this as you will need a new gasket if you take it off.

If you do take it off change the ball on the end of the stick whilst your there.

Hi Bigbear i have just looked this up in the Bentley Manual. If you have a manual its section 6 page 29 and it describes it as Guide bush i would post a pic but cant at the moment. But it is fitted inside the nose cone.

Cheers for that mate, is it actually worth changing?

Not sure really - i guess it depends if its worn.

It does say in the manual that when you fit them they do occasionally need reaming.

I would of thought that if it was an item that was changed often you would of had more replies on this thread.

As i said earlier if you do decide to remove the nose cone to put the bush in make sure you change the pivot ball at the same time.
