just bought a rust free import cab door for my 69 for a great price. it has the push button on the top to lock it, I take it its a pre 69 door then?

Q - Is the push button the only difference I need to worry about, can I weld the hole up and still fit the inside door handle/lock from the 69 in its place or does it mean there is nothing to attach the inside door handles/lock to??
Thanks in advance! :?

Hi..I just bought a rust free US spec door for my 73. from Karmann Konnection.

The door fits fine but I did find a couple of minor differences.

1. The new dor has a pop up lock button which I dont need. This has left a small hole to weld over somehow.

2. The interior lock / opener catch (not the door pull) mounting holes were in the wrong place.

To solve this I just had to drill two new holes. The original had captive nuts which obviously the new holes do not. You need small hands to bolt in the door handle now.

Other than that it was a relatively painlesss operation. The windows and locks just swapped straight over.

i had purchased US doors for my 74 bay,got them painted inside and out.Drilled new holes for the inner door catch as above, all still good.Fitted the door to my bus then set about fitting the glass  1/4 glass went in well then when i came to fit the dropglass i realised the rearmost vertical chanel(nearest the catch) was totaly different.i then had to cut open my old rusty door for the proper part and weld it into the new door.Result Blisterd paint!!!!It all worked well exept for knackering the fresh new paint on my door  .So my advice would be check all window guids and if different deal with before paint. Also when drilling holes for inner catch be carefull you dont suddenly go through and hit the outer skin, leaves nipples errr so im told

It could be a 68 door, or a post 74.

If the latter youll need a hinger conversion kit, if its a 68, I 'think' there are problems regarding the door handle position.

had a look at the door handle and my existing 69 - has two captive nuts one above the other to secure the handle. The new door has the captive nuts diagonal to each other. one of the nuts is in the right place, the other is not.
Hinges are on the in side the same as exsisiting door.only other difference is the push button!
my money is on it being a 68 door! what you reckon?
anyone want to swop a 68 door for 69, seems a shame to alter an original!
