hello
i have just fitted my new vewib cab door rubbers very impresed with the quality and fit :D
but when i went to shut the door there was loads of resistance with a 4" gap still left
the door does shut but it takes a good shove and when its closed the rear of the door sticks out by about 5mm
after closer inspection it seems to be around the check strap with the seal having to compress from about 12mm down to 5mm when the door is shut
my question is do the seals squash down in time or should i trim it to make shutting the door easier?
anybody else come across this ?
any input would be great as when opening the door it nearly smacked me in the face
thanks norm

I have replaced mine too recently with the same seals as you. one side in the spring and the other two weeks ago.

both where harder to shut with the new seals, they needed a good slam, but with the old seals the doors rattled when closed they where so perished!

both doors also stick out by about 5mm at the back so would be interested if there is a way of adjusting this too.

Mine where from C&C, the pricier German quality OEM ones. (vewib?)

they fit nice and snug but the door does protrude some

The Vewib ones I had made the door stick out, I now have some from GSF, the door shuts better but the seal doesnt have the right-angle in the corner like the Vewib ones....I think the Vewib's are made nearer to the OE spec but the GSF shut better, make of that what you will

Just

I got Vewib ones from Status VW and my doors originally looked bad and were hard to close but I've got to
say that over the weeks they are slowly compressing and looking better all the time .

Not sure how long it takes to reach full compression though - perhaps it's just a patience game ?

I did speed the compression process by adjusting the catches on the post to compress the rubbers a bit tighter temporarily
and will re adjust after a week or so .

I have the C&C ones and they do stick out a bit but are slowly compressing in. According to the guys that fitted them they used to be a better fit and it's only more recent batches that they have had this problem with.

Just be glad youre not replacing door rubbers on a split. I fitted vw original seals and it was imposible to close the door no matter how hard I slammed them!!..Had to cut the seals in half length ways to make them fit and doors to close. My advice is not to change any seals unless absolutely neccessary because you will be lucky if the new ones fit properly, no matter how good the quality is.

I have JK best quality ones and they are spot on no protrusion of the door and fit a treat.

hello
cheers for the replys had another look tonight think i will try and trim a bit off the seal just on then inside of the door strap
this seems to be the problem area
thanks norm
