Hi - I fitted some genuine cab door seals a few weeks back from custom and commerical to my van (its a 68 by the way which are one year only doors- don`t know if this makes any difference) - they are excellnet quality and have all the bumps, mouldings in them etc.

The only thing is though, even with maximum adjustment on the latch, i can only get the door to catch and shut with it still protruding 4mm or proud of the pillar. I have to give it a good slam to get it to catch too!

Is this normal? Or do they need to bed in - i imagine i`ll be waiting along time! I`m tempted to `shave` a small layer of the inner side of the seal to allow the door to shut flush but i`m worried about reducing the seals affectiveness.

Anyone else fitted genuine seals and had problems like this? What did you do to get around them?

Cheers, Mike

I had the same problem, after a while they free up. I found my passenger door got better than the drivers side faster as it was kept shut longer.

As Mattd said. Back in the "old days" when the seals could still be bought from VW themselves they were exactly the same. Very tight to start with until they bed in at which point the door catches can be re-adjusted.
