Has anyone done this ??
Fitted a rock n roll bed in the front.
Can you remove the bulkheads, it's a walk through

:? How would it fold out into sleep mode, even with bulk heads gone the bed in the up/sleeping positon is 4-6inches higher and the seat front edge moves fwd about the same than when used as a seat. steering wheel would be in the way.

Can't fault the idea but i'm not sure you would fizzicly have the space

Yeah I don't think it's a rock n roll in the full sense.
More a backwards mounted affair so you pull into the rear cabin if that makes any sense.
The angle of the backrest in the up position would need to be altered to allow the seat to be used for driving.

I'm sure I've seen one done.

I would be hesitant to chop in to the bulkheads.
They provide strength and rigidity to the vehicle.
Not recommended, but it has been done before.
Proceed with utmost caution

Well Said

Those bulkheads help protect you in a roll over, the stop the van shell from folding and twisting.

You will need to add some bracing in place of them if you remove.

I have seen the front seats done in splits but not in bays.

Similar concept in a split...

Wouldn't be too difficult to modify that design to fold completely flat with a rear seat that completes the bed.

As had been said, however- BRACE BRACE BRACE or crush your kids to death in an accident.

(sorry to be harsh, but it seems important!)

Didn't VW Evolution offer this as a kit?

Thanks guys
I was unsure on the bulkhead
How did they fit bracing to the splitty above because the bulkhead must have been removed??

Hey clem
Vw evolution make one for the split and bay it appears the bulkhead is removed there is no mention on the site about bracing.
I guess the seat must make it back up

I guess if you had a look at a late bay that has a swivel passenger seat from the factory and replicated whatever bracing they use then youd be ok ... from what I recall its just a small triangular plate on the inner b post area.

If Im honest I dont think it would make 'that' much difference in reality ... would the van be affected in a crash? Maybe if you were hit on the side with sufficient impact, but I tend to think with such a force required then the difference in outcome would be negligable. Front or rear impacts? I cant see how it would really change things.
Would the van flex any more? Unlikely in most scenarios ... the axles/wheels are at a much lower point and are at chassis level, which if solid should prevent noticable flex. Im assuming its not a hi powered van being chucked about?

Would I do it? Not a chance .... you'll be cutting out massive chunks of value and desirability with every chunk of steel. Theres enough room in the back of a bay to seat 6(?) people (3 each way face to face) .... if thats not enough space then look for a Kempernink!

Yeah I get the whole devaluing thing but I've already taken a mint standard van, started to slam, patinaed the paint striped out the interior etc etc
Sacraldige?? Yeah maybe but different I hope so.
I'm aiming to be ready for next years season
So I hope I don't mess it up lol

Its your bus...

Could make for an interesting thread me thinks?!

As long as it wasn't a westy?!
