Hello all

Advice needed I went to fit my new cabin bunk yesterday but on trying to the drill the holes in the front columns no drill bits I tried or even tools would even get close to make a 9mm hole.

Anyone had the same problem if so how did you get round it please ?

Thanks

Simon

The metal used is pretty tough so I started with a 1mm drill and slowly worked my way up. Drill slowly or the bits will dull quickly. You can get some black mushroom head grommets from Halfords which with a bit of insulation tape to thicken them up a bit cover up the holes quite nicely when not used

I've been carrying our new cab bunk around for 2 weeks now!
Along with my drill etc, hopefully get time this week& report back here How I get on! ?

Hi Lee

Would be appreciated because I tried what was suggested before and go no where :(

Many Thanks

Simon

I'd work my way up in sizes too, but go to a good hardware store (not the DIY chains) and buy some good quality metal drill bits, it will make all the difference IMO

Hi Matt

Thanks will give it a try and update accordingly.

Many Thanks

Simon

Bit of an old thread, but I had the same issue. Here's how I solved it.

I had an NLA bunk. I used a 5.5 HSS bit, and then bought some new screws from B&Q (6x20mm pan head self tappers). Key for drilling metal is to keep a low speed.

With a cordless 18v drill/driver, I then screwed them in. Worked well.

I think if you use a normal screwdriver, you'll struggle to get the screw in - just that bit too tight and you'll just keep on going for a bigger bit.

From what I read prior, most screws provided are crap, regardless of make. Best to renew with higher quality.

Ta.
