The engine is 1800 with 2 litre barrels and pistons (wot the seller said :? ), and is fitted with the weber progressive on unheated manifolds and its a complete sod until its warm and then its just a pig, the manifolds are always cold regardless of how long its been running.

My splitty is 1600TP with twin ICTs and its so responsive, so Jane's bay is going to twin something.

Using the formula in Seume book (aircooled engine interchange manual) I need a pair of 40mm chokes for 2000cc and 5000rpm, so the twin 34 ICT which I love on the 1600 is probably not right. Most running is local bussing of the kids and their mates, but still need reasonable cruise for the occasional long haul, and long hill.

40mm Kadrons (about which I know nothing) or double up the weber 32/36 progressive? (assume cheaper 'cos already have one)

Choke sizes are interchangable on the same carbs, but with that size engine i think you would want at least twin 36s with 32mm chokes, your best bet would be a set of forties to be honest.

I have a set of 36's jetted and choked for a 1800, not the most powerful, but im going for economy, anything smaller would be starving the engine at higher revs.

Frankly Kadrons suck. They are cheaply made and have a bit of a drink problem. I have a friend with a 2.0 T4 engine in a Bay and he is running a pair of Dell'orto 36 DRLAs and it is fantastic.

correct me if im wrong... those Dell 36s are the equivalent to 40 IDFs? so would be perfect. i would definitely stick with Dells or Genuine Webbers if buying a set.

Kadrons did have a big prob with there cheaply made linkage, but if you find some dells your deffinately onto a winner....

I don't mind my kadrons.

With a vacuum distributor in a bug I can get 40mpg on a long run. Plugs are the perfect colour and everything set up well though. That's with a 1641 in winter, 55mph on the motorway.

They are not the best carbs out there, but they are not the most expensive, either. :)

are Dell'orto's still made? I can find parts but not carbs. There seem to be regular ex Alfa pairs on ebay though.

try alfa1750 on ebay (he is in Italy but advertises worldwide), loads of people have bought them off him inc. myself & Haveacamper on here, jets them according to your requirements - even does a postage & cost discount for multiple orders so see if you can find someone else that wants some or set up a group buy & bargains galore

running Twin Kadrons (Solex 40mm) on my 1600tp as recommended by the chap who works on my bus...cheap to buy...cheap and easy for him to fit...bus sits a 70mph (now the acc pedal is fixed  )....or 75mph if you believe the speedo  ...and has more if i were a braver man

.......on the hill out of Weymouth I used to have to fanny around at about 30mph between 3rd and 4th......now it is still pulling at 50mph....the torque is the main benefit by far

.....Webbers probably are better carbs but there is I'm sure a 'fashion' element to their name

What sort of MPG do you get with them?

Do you have the problems with cold starting, especially in winter? I find mine take about a minute to start idling at a sensible speed - before that you have to be very light on the throttle.

I'm considering a set for my van, but I don't really want to have to remove the air filter pedestal (which I know would need doing for any twin carbs)

Not sure on the mpg, just filled it up so will (if I remember) let you know, trouble is I have 15" alloys/lower profile tyres which will make the odometer read wrong  ....also you tend to use the power you have  so I drive it a bit quicker than when I had a single carb

Yep, they require a couple of revs on start up and then they run smooooooooooth, only fitted them just before this summer so wont find out until winter (please note the terms winter and summer are outdated historical terms that used to be used to denote seasons of the year! )

I just love the extra torque you get, a more forgiving drive. It will do 25-30mph in 4th no problem and still pull 8) ....so your not waggling the stick all the time in traffic  ...

.....my pedestal was cut but I think you could drill out the welds so as to save it as a keepsake :?:

Think yourself lucky if you have an earlier bay and not a crossover as the air filter pedestal in the crossover is a bee-otch to get out!

Driven my bus with no chokes in the winter weather and it was fine, just takes a few pumps to get it going and 1/2 mile up the road it's fine.

If anyone wants a spin round the block next show we're at give me a shout :)
