Bought myself one of those remote central locking kits off ebay for under £20 with the plan of fitting it to the cab doors in my 70 westy making life just that little bit easier.

Tested the kit on the garage floor and works a treat and the actuators have a good strong pull/push action. Had a quick look at the van over the Xmas hols after whipping the door card off and not as straight forward as I was hoping. The only space to mount the actuator is in the lower part of the door so its not fouling the window opening space. But that said I cannot work out how to get the actuator rod up to the door handle locking mech to make it all work.

Has anyone else done this conversion to their vehicle and can offer some advice?

Go onto KombiKlub website Australia and in the search section put in" Keyless entry "

Should work/help.

I had a couple of mates who had proper late bay kits for central locking and electric windows in the early 90's and both failed within months, even though they were made for buses. To be honest I would be surprised if a £20 kit was any good and lasted: I don't think anywhere sells proper kits for bays anymore and that's probably with good reason.

I fitted one of these universal kits to my bay many years ago and it is still going strong. Never let me down. As for hooking it up, below is a very poor photo from when I fitted it, you can make out the actuator in the top of the picture, it may help?

Just for fun, I also fitted central locking to the sliding door! Something for you to think about maybe?

So madman, am I correct that you fitted the acruator to the rod of the internal lock rather than connecting it to up/down lock lever of the lock/handle assembly?

To be honest I can't remember. I'll have to go and look in to it when I get a chance. But looking at the picture I posted, the actuator looks like the rod would be connected to the lock horizontally? Maybe? I seem to remember there was another hole in the door lock mechanism that I used. I'll go and have a look when I get a chance. Probably won't be before the weekend though.
