I'm thinking of changing the standard oil bath air filter on my bay ,1600 TP (34 PICT 3 carb), to a flat pancake type to tidy up the engine bay a bit.
What are the advatages / disadvantages in this?
I've seen a lot of pictures of carbs with these fitted so it must be a popular choice but what does it do?

in my opinion bad idea, first thing i did with my last bus was dispose of the crap pancake filter and put back in the oil bath filter

ran miles better

It would be welcome to the world of carb icing. There are no advantages that I can think of. As they say chrome don't bring you home.

If you do have a change make sure you get one as big as poss to prevent carb icing, or change to twin carbs

This is probably a really stupid question but...........
what oil should i be using in my oil bath filter as at the moment its clean and free of oil!

Might be wrong, but I think you use normal (new!) engine oil - clean it out and fill to the red line (apparently there is one!)

Or Extra Virgin Olive.....
