Thinking about colours again - for the umpteenth billionth time. But this time from the re-sale point of view.

Appreciate that we may not keep our bus for ever and that one day we might actually sell it...

So I was just wondering how many people out there would be put off buying a nice bus if it were painted in a non-VW bus colour - even if the bus ticked all the right boxes?

Nope, as long as I liked the colour and it suited the van. A metallic or similar paint job would put me off as it looks too non standard and I don't think they suit.

I do like two tone with a white top half though, rather than 1 colour all over.

I'm the sort of person who likes to drive the vehicles so showroom condition wouldn't suit me too much. Just tidy and clean looking would suit me fine ;)

Seeing a nice stock bus is always nice though. :)

I prefer a VW to be painted in VW shades, even if its not the original colour.

Next would be other solid colours from a similar period.

Modern colours and metallics are ok if the van has a custom thing going on. But the panels would have to be perfect! nothing worse than a dodgy mettallic sprayed on a dodgy panel.

I wouldnt even bother looking at a van freshly painted in 'loud' colours. pinks/lilacs/pepermint/lime etc... thems not my taste.

Hi,

Interesting reading - and some very valid comments!

I love the solid VW colours - but then again so does everybody else.

I love Neptune blue and Dove blue - but go to a show and you'd lose count of how many buses you'd see in this colour :) And often a different set of wheels doesn't make that much difference.

This is why/where (for me) metallics come into play - especially Porsche colours from the 60's & 70's :)

Cheers,

Mike

If your bus is totally original and your concerned about resale then go for the original colour your bus should be other than that just go for what you like most, its your bus. Theres nothing original about lowered suspension or after market wheels so why worry about colour, unless of course you want a pink bus with a green roof and orange flames then you may have trouble shifting it :)

Personally I don't think metallic colours suit a VW camper,I prefer a solid colour preferably with a white top half.I like some all over colours though, like the creamy/beigy colours.
Although if I was buying I would be looking at the condition of the bodywork as the main priority not the colour. There is always such varied tastes though, that whatever colour you choose to paint your bus with that someone else will like it.So just go ahead and paint it the colour you choose not the what the majority would aprove of.

Whatever colour you decide make sure the engine bay gets painted. What i don't like is when you pop open the engine lid and you find the original colour that differs from the rest.

This area can often get over looked as its quite a tricky place to prep and paint. If someone can't be arsed to do the engine bay it's best to stick with the original colour as it won't show up.

I also prefer original period VW colours and personalise with desired height and wheels to make your mark.

^^WHS

im a purist, and always feel most buses done in really whacky metallic colours lose that certain charm a bay van has. There are some subtle metallics that can be nice but they tend to be pastel shades like spanish olive green etc.

If it subtle then its nice to me but that just my taste. I havent really seen alot metallic vans over here, but the ones that i have looked awful.

say no more

I reckon that a bus with solid colours that are from the original VW catalogue will
always look and sell better!

But, if the colour chosen is a flat colour and very solid, it will work just as good

That matrix bus is everything i dislike in the 'vw/automotive scene' rolled into one package. :D

Reminds me of the minis made by these people.

they do alot of hard work, put all the right bits on the cars and go and ruin it with a stupid theme.

why Oh why would you waste money having that done?? :?

It's a bit like novelty socks and ties. The person wearing them thinks he's dead funny but everyone thinks he's a knob.

I'm not a fan of the plastic wheelarches on minis either. Bleuch to that paint job.

edit: But there is nothing wrong with a novelty tie (except ones with flashing lights and Christmas music) to make an otherwise dull suit a little more interesting

if thats air brushed... which it looks like, it must have cost a fecking fortune!

Yea its airbrushed. I think that mini costs 10K

Thay have another one on that site. It been on sale for years. Started at 25K now only a measly 13K :)

My feelings exactly.

I don't know why but metallics look too modern.

Although I have had urges several times to paint a bus like the bus in the Italian Job with lower half blue metallic, silver strip below windows and metallic red top half. 8)
