hello ..... i'm looking to get myself an early bay, love the looks, but i'm getting a bit of grief about the lack of built in cooker (not my main priority i hasten to add) in most i've looked at on the net.

what do most of you do about cooking on here? and have you got any pics?

thanks.

Welcome Hipshaker, a good choice in bus - early bay is the only way!

Most camper conversions has a two-ring gas hob with built in grill hidden away somewhere. Do your research and find the best type of interior that suits you (and the other half), visit shows to seem some examples in the flesh or find a local meet with people who will let you have a nose around there vans.

we were looking for a caper with a built in cooker, but went for a sepearate on in the end, i managed to perswade the wife that cooking bacon inside the van wasnt going to be a good idea, so we cook in the awning now.

I agree with this comment and have never and will never cook inside a van. I don't want grease sticking to the interior, however I do have a small campingaz single burner with protane gas cans for making a brew inside if i want to.

I also find it a lot easier to cook outside on a twin burner gas stove poistioned on a proper cooker table as you are not restricted by the head room inside a van either.

if going for a weekend,a cooker in the van is good as it saves putting an awning up but if i were going for longer id cook outside, ive got a fold away camping gas slung in the back, 2 hobs and a grill its fab and only cost £40 from millets

I cook outside the van as I have had vans with cookers and they smell of what ever you cook for a while which im not a van off (sleeping in a bacon sarnie is not nice on a hangover!)

I have a fold away cooking / storage unit which goes up in the awning or outside under the sun canopy if i havent got the awning 8)

Like this in fact!! except with a different stove and a lower van

Those boy's knew their stuff when designing interiors.

I love my Westy.....far too much for a grown man but I do miss my Devon swing out cooker. It really was the best of both worlds.

I am in the process of designing a 2 ring cooker for my Westy, if i ever get round to finishing it I'll post some pics.

The other option is this:  I have a 2 ring burner in the Puck.....

The danbury has a cooker that drops down inside the buddy seat by the door. You can stand outside and cook but the cooker is still inside!
No problems with head height when the pop top is up.

Great thing about campers is parking up anywhere and having dinner
