Spent a few hours cleaning and streightening this. Mine has some insulation underneath consisting of alloy sheet and fibreglass insulation. Should this be there to keep tail pipe heat away ? Only the insulation in this country will be a rust trap. Do I chuck it or keep it or change it ?

Those holes in the back plate shouldn't be there, those big holes that is.
Looks like someone's tried to increase airflow over the exhaust or something.
