Having an arguement with a friend... :D

Can someone enlighten him to the exact meaning of crossover please?

also the easiest way to tell a crossover from an early amongst the other things is the rear valance.

If it removeable then its an early if its welded in its a crossover, one thing that cant be hidden when trying to hide the age of a van.

Interesting views there, but it does wander off topic a bit... (that never happens here  )

As far as I'm concerned, a Crossover is a bay that left the factory with the following:
Low front indicators
Blade bumpers
Straight rear vents
Big (ugly) rear lights
Flaired front arches
10" badge
Big engine bay with non-removable valance

If it doesn't look like that anymore then it's probably because repairs have been made and available parts have been adapted - I don't mind this as long as they're on the road and being driven and enjoyed!

It is a bit weird having a crossover - it's a one year only (6 months really) model, but was also the year that the highest number of type 2's were made - parts like front arches, bumper irons and front panels are items that don't need to be replaced every year though! (Hopefully!)

Crossover of the world unite - together, we can take over the VW world!!!

Yep, Id go along with that as the 'official' definition, but there certainly seem to be some minor variations - but generally - low front lights, big square back lights ...

yeah i tried to telt him that, but he was insisting 'cross-overs' are all early bays, ie anything between a split and a late bay. the fool!

thanks

Someone at vanfest told me that some crossovers used up all of the old bits at VW. Some had wrap around bumpers at the front and newer type at the rear. That could be why there could be so many different types around. I have only seen a few with high indicators.

Im a CO guy! just thought i would add that, isn't the handbrake different as well, i like the fact its abit of a one off, and i have just replaced my window today as it got smashed was such a fun job after i forgot how much of a pig it was to take the door apart :D

Still back on to the subject, cows don't eay with there feet no matter what your mate says his a fool :p

Is it? Seem to rememeber we've had them as 72s and 73s although could be different because ours are all aussie vans.

I was told the week about a very short run of vans that came with blade bumper on the front, low indicators, but big rear lights and late model bumper on the back.

Pretty sure we've also had some crossovers with and without servo brakes?

Quick get them all and put them back in, they are not meant to be out at this time of night :D
