Differences between the bay years

After coming from an early bug background, I had trouble finding parts. This was mainly due to lots of one year only changes etc. I believe the bay is from 1968 to 1979 and know about the lighting changes and disc brake additions, but are there any other changes through the years (apart from the type 4 engine)?

I am mainly asking because I am after a bay that needs work and don't want to be in 'parts hell' again ;-) That said, a quick peek on ebay and there does seem to be plenty of bay parts available which were reasonably priced (compared to stupid money on 1961 bug bits with loads of demand it seemed).

There are many differences, so it may be a good idea to have a look at the sticky on the tech forum...

engine lids, relays, wipers, indicator stalks, lights, handles, hinges etc......

especially if your factoring in the late "cough scum cough" bays.....


things like kidney brake resevoirs in good condition can be rocking horse doo dah, 9 prong relays, locking petrol caps etc...
