A while ago I bought a set of NOS ones that apparently were sourced in Mexico.

It turns out that these have fewer 'fins' than the 'normal' OG ones.

I'm thinking of buying some 2nd hand ones from the States, along with some other parts.

Does anyone know if all the US buses had the same type or whether places like California had the ones with fewer fins?

Nah, they're all the same. 1200 heat exchangers had a heat takeoff for the carb preheat and other beetle heat exchangers had the linkage fitted upside down (can be taken off and flipped easily enough) but that's it.

Be careful where you get them from as it seems tricky to get decent OG ones.

I got some from Lonestar VW that were supposed to be solid US ones that looked fine on the outside but both were rusted inside and blowing when we fitted them.

Had to go with a new set in the end  Nowhere near as good at heating, and I know they won't last as long but at least I know what I'm buying.
