Ayup, does anyone know If the 69 onwards door handles will fit on a 68 door? The one on there currently has a push button to open door where as the later type has a lever behind the handle...

:)

JK specifically say this handle is for 68 onwards...

I realise 68 have button and later have trigger - but are they definitely not interchangeable....?

JK seem to say a lot of parts are 68-79 which aren't so I wouldn't trust that!

YOU CAN USE A SPLITTY ONE IF YOU CHANGE THE OPERATING FINGER ON THE BACK OF THE LOCK BARREL

I have an issue with mine - also a 68 - the doors don't seem to want to lock with a key, it unlocks with a struggle - its not stiff as such - just seems as though it's not connecting correctly in the back of the lock?

It does my head in-I'm not overly bothered if I have to remove door mechs but I'm not sure what to check, sure I have the right 'finger' but no idea how to check without masses of internet searching....

I have to open the sliding door and open the passenger door and then lean across -proper pita!

did you solve your issue?

the door mechs are 68 only [possibly split?]

On this...for some reason I think the door may be an actual later door rather than just wrong handle

Can't quite remember but I think that's why it's different

It's almost certainly the little spring inside the lock mechanism - fiddly but easily replaced (mines a 68 too)

Any pics at all? Cheers

I think the po gave me a little spring so I bet that's what the door needs to help it, feels like the keys gonna snap if I turn it anymore but it is trying to lock and unlock?

The other door is deffo a later door, I bought a replacement handle for it with a key but the finger is much fatter on the new one, need to try and swap them or grind it down or something along those lines

I have a 68 as well, and the PO replaced the driver's side door handle with a later model. My key works all doors except the 68 passenger side handl, so I'm guessing there is in fact a difference between 68 and other years. I will keep using it until there's problems but for now I tagged these threads for future reference. Maybe some could help you now. Have fun reading ...

This Karl gent knows his stuff ... only 67 or 68 will fit.
