I'm looking around for insulation and sound deadening foam to put behind my bus walls.
I really need some closed cell foam sheets.
I keep coming across e v a foam. Is it the same thing as closed cell foam ?

I thought EVA is the material used for camping mats which is fine, but 3M Thinsulate Acoustic is highly recommended.

Should have added that the EVA camping mats will not have an adhesive, whereas the Thinsulate will have heat resistant adhesive.

EVA foam is a closed cell foam that is reported not to absorb moisture. It is also sold in North America as floor mats for garages to relieve stress on the body where one would be standing at a workbench. You can also find online that creative folks make costumes/armour out of it. The typical way to work with it is bending the thicker foam sheets with a hair dryer or heat gun and using hot-glue sticks for adhesive. The form you shape is supposed to be permanent, but what about the heat of the sun directly on the metal it is applied to? Me thinks it could be a problem that I would not want to spend the time and money testing. There's lots of threads about insulation and/or sound deadening materials online ... I'm not sure this one will do either very well.

Just had a look around on web for the thinsulate acoustic
Came across this http://www.carinsulation.co.uk/product/adhesive_backed_au3002-2_car_insulation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The 5 m pack would prob be enough for my bus as the roof was done when I had my headliner fitted

I may order a pack :D

That's the link I posted at the top! The sounddeadenershowdown guy recommends it,

"There are a few areas where an absorber can be used effectively. Between the roof and headliner, inside hollow trim panels and to fill voids, like empty quarter panels. I use 3M Thinsulate™ Acoustic for absorption. It's a very high quality absorbent material that won't hold moisture. 25mm (1 inch) thick and 30 inches wide. It has a charcoal colored fabric scrim on one side for protection. The fibers are hydrophobic. Moisture can pass through the space between the fibers but the fibers themselves won't absorb moisture, mildew or deteriorate.

3M Thinsulate™ Acoustic is an outstanding decoupler and an excellent thermal insulator. It's a great product that's finding increasing use in new vehicles."

By the way, this product doesn't block sound it prevents vibrations/ rattles.
