Early bay rear brake backing plates

Their doesn't appear to be anybody selling rear backing plates for 1969 bays ,,...
My question is !!!
Can post 73 backing plates be modified to fit , or do split screen plates fit...
How have owners of 69 bays overcome this..
Any comments would be of great help...
Surely I don't have to change all running gear ..
