I am considering installing an electric hook-up in my 70 Dormobile ready for summer.

What I don't want to do is have to cut the side of the van to install the plug socket and having given it some thought has anyone installed the hook-up socket in the engine bay? Easy access for the hook up?

Any views?

on my 68 devon i installed it underneath on the chassis then wires straight into the floor/ front wardrobe, makesure plug is well waterproofed and all is well

I'm going through the floor on my microbus, theres a drain already there which I'm gonna use behind the drivers bulkhead....

My hook up is installed in the engine bay then the wires are fed up behind the spare wheel bay and onto a double socket

you can just see it in the top left hand corner of this picture

Seen it done in the engine bay before, guess it would be a bit tight if your running a leisure battery as well though.

The boss has done a few at work with the hook up attached to the chassis underneath the van, we have a place near by that sells motorhomes and camping eqipment and they do waterproofed sockets with a crap guard on the front to stop them getting mucky.
