Has anyone switched to electric ignition ? Is it any good pros and cons please 8)

I have compufire in the bus & pertronix in the buggy both units now 5+ years old, but did have a pertronix die for no reason
when fitted in the bus

Was talking to a mate at volksworld ( http://www.doctune.co.uk/ ), apparently he fitted a 123 system to a split at work and it made an extra 4 bhp just with it on which was unexpected!
I'm saving up for one, they sound the nuts.

I have fitted a Bosch electronic ignition dizzy + TCI unit from a T25 wasserboxer to my '71, and have found a definite improvement in fuel consumption. With careful driving, I can now get about 400km on a tank, was never possible with contact breaker points!

as i have 36 IDFs (no vac adv.) i was thinking about buying the pertronix billet dizzy with all this built in, just need the leads and coil, rather than the electronic ignition and non vac adv dizzy, as i thought it would workout cheaper.

Looks cool into the bargain.

Thats still under 20mpg, assuming you have a standard 60 litre tank.

Something is still wrong there, IMO.

60 liter tank   ? Something must DEFINITELY be wrong?? I was under the impression my Bus has a 50 liter tank, because I have never been able to put more than 49 liter in at a time, and I have never ran out of gas before? I just fill up when the gauge says so?

400 km on 50 liter of petrol = 12,5 liter per 100km, which I think is good for a Type 1-engined Bay!

My only worry with electronic ignition is, when it goes wrong, its not fixable at the side of the road - unless I suppose if you buy two -
