Ive just been out in my shed cutting down the metal security door a bit as it fouls on the shed roof. the grinder kicked back and went a bit mental on me, luckily i had googles, gloves and long sleeves....
the scary bit was that i noticed id left a full 13kg bottle of propane right behind me and in the firing line of the grinding sparks

gave me a little scare, the things we do and get away with!

man im annoyed at myself for being such a spaz!
the reason i built the shed was to get all the flammable items out of the garage!

does that include the cider? :D

I can see that whenever I get over there i will have to an audit of your work/play place.
I am the OH&S rep for my department and can set you straight on how to survive some common traps.
Seriously though, glad to hear you didn't injure yourself, it would a bit ironic to survive twister chasing , then come to grief in your own back yard.
I have had a near miss with the wire brush attachment on my grinder, it ate the sleeve of the windcheater I was wearing in no time flat. 99 out 100 times I would have been working with short sleeves but this day was a bit chilly.
Always wear long sleeves now! As well as goggles and gloves.

someone was definately watching over me today!

grinders are nasty things, i had one "run" up my arm when i was about 19, luckily it heals but i still remember it well.

be careful boys n girls!

yea got a few grinder scars, innit quick how fast they get to the bone!

i was wearing welding guantlets and it almost tore thru them, best £4 you can spend to be honest. they cover your wrists and are thicker than normal work gloves.
luckily i got out the way too, if your under a bus etc its a bit tricker!

I wear riggers gloves all the time out there. I'll get some gauntlets for those type of jobs. I am off to the hardware/tool joint tomorrow to get a new cordless drill. I'll pick some up while I'm there.
My brother in law is a church going christian and he calls the US style mega hardware joints "Saturday Church"
For such a straight character he has a good sense of humour.

Dude! Glad to hear you're OK, that's scary stuff you're dealing with there and it deserves some respect!

Had a close call yesterday when I forgot to drop my welding visor - luckily no ill effects but lesson learnt!

Play safe kids, I want to see you all at the South Coast meet with the requisite number of limbs (I will be checking!).

;)

what is it with men and tools, you turn into dangerous creatures!

you should see scott with a sledgehammer , scary stuff

glad your ok

I was up a 25ft ladder at work against a large industrial door a couple of months ago , the door was locked, but someone unlocked it and opened it when i was at the top!!!, never been down a ladder so fast  if it wasnt tied off i wouldn,t be driving my bus for a bit. I also used to have a job changing electric meters and can remember being at one house and realising i hadnt pulled the main fuse after putting the replacement meter back on. I have been in a&e twice with grinding metal in my eye and i was wearing goggles both times!!!, dont think i can be trusted with anything    dodgy them grinders!! :D

we all do silly things from time to time, i was all safety googled up, gloves etc but forgot to move the gas bottle.
i just wanted to point out that we should all look around before firing up the grinder...how many people have welded a bus with the gas bottle in it or a full petrol can

made me stop n think... paint cans, thinners, that full bin...
thanks for the kind words guys

I had the needle treatment where the nurse lifts the splinter out of your eye out on the tip of a needle, i've never been so still, luckilly the nurse wasnt attractive
i think i'll have to invest in one of those full face masks i'd rather look like a riot cop for half an hour than look like a pirate for a week

What's wrong with looking like a pirate???

Seriously though, safety first - I'll be taking a lot more care from now on...
