I am reluctantly selling my very rare 1970 Bay Arco Mobil camper that I have owned for 2 years. Sale due to an upcoming house move and baby due in November.
It is a German import that was built by a small cabinet makers called Arco Mobil that later became known as Grawomobil. Only a few survive only a few hundred were ever made. The conversion is very well made with lots of storage space, similar to a Westfalia but with a huge bed! I have only ever seen a split screen one of these in the UK and that was in a Magazine and a later Grawomobil bay on a UK forum so I think it would be fair to assume this is 1 of only a handful (only 1?) in the UK. It originally had a wooden pop top but as these rarely stood up well to the elements it now has a Paris soft top fitted by a previous owner. The spec would have been considered quite high in its day and there are a few extras to be found including the slide out side step, opening front quarter windows, heated rear window. The Van was imported by a previous owner and underwent some light resto work including a freshen up of the paint which is its original green colour and also the interior was given a make over with new carpet, curtains and seat covers. Just before I purchased the van it had a reconditioned 1600 engine fitted which has covered only a few thousand miles in the time I have owned it. The work I have carried out (mostly done my local VW specialist) includes Electronic ignition, twin carbs, new clutch plate, leisure battery which runs the stereo and internal lights, front visor and chequed VunderBra plus lots more. The van is mechanically extremely reliable and sound. the body work is good clean and strait, not show condition but solid. You may want to touch it up a little but not really necessary just a few small marks. The underneath has a couple of small welds done by a previous owner, nothing drastic and I have applied a coat of waxoyl to the belly pans and inside the wheel arches. The wheels are BRM's, wide rears and thin fronts with plenty of tread left but also included are the 5 original wheels. I also include the roof rack. It passed the MOT in May and is Tax exempt. I have kept my eye on the prices of buses and consider that due to the rarity, condition, engine and desirability of professionally converted early bays a fair price to ask will be £11000. I have seen worse up for more money and this price is less than what I have put in. I am located near Norwich close to the A11/A47, I work away in the week so viewing is possible at the weekends please PM and I will get back quick as I can. Thanks
