What do you do with your big glaring hole there where the radio should be? Let it gape at you like an open sore? Well I myself, having been radioless for quite sometime (prefering to listen to the sounds of my mighty 1600 burbling fat on high octane gas) I had a buddy make me a filler plate. Its solid brushed aluminum, and the center can be engraved to anything you like. I, having not liked anything quite that much, have left it blank. It attaches with a threaded rod in a little hole in the rear of the plate, that you attach to something in the dash to hold it in.

Anywhoo, your thoughts?

EDIT: Sorry, second pic sucks.

Hi
There is an original blanking plate you can buy like this.
DSC00493.jpg

mine is of a new bay where the dash is cut for new type radios.
I just cut a bit of plastic off the back so it fitted the smaller hole

The originals some times pop up on Ebay .Looks good though the one you have made ;)

Hi!

That alloy one looks trick - how about having some mounting holes for guages? Dunno if 3 would fit though?
Well done - very smart. You could go into production with that! I'd buy one - though i have a old radio in mine...so not needed.
The OG's are fine, but we all like a bit of bling dont we? I have a us spec westy - so have the padded dash, and well, it's a bit black - moreso with the OG plate, so reckon this is a nice addition to any van.

Cheers!

Think strongy on here was selling some ally heater levers, seen some switches and handbrake pulls too, would look cool all together 8)

I dont have a radio in my van but did have a hole left by a previous owner who butchered dash , So I bought a non working retro radio from a boot sale . Took the front off the radio and ditched the weighty bit with all the gubbins in . Then made a ply board backing plate that i stuck to rear of dash covering the ugly hole . Then i glued the front of stereo to ply and tidied edges up with a surround and mastic . and hey presto old radio in van 8)

I found the containers for the dishwasher tablets that my wife buys fit the radio hole in the dash. There about 3" deep and really handy for bits and bobs.
